From routine surgery gone wrong to amazing recovery.
I went in to the hospital for a routine hernia operation that turned out to be anything but routine. There were complications and I became septic and almost didn’t make it. After spending 42 days in the hospital I couldn’t walk. I could barely move. I really couldn’t do much of anything for myself. I knew I couldn’t go home, and that’s how I came to be a patient at Berkshire Health and Rehabilitation Center.
When I arrived my spirits were very low and I remember telling the therapist that I thought I’d never walk again. She told me “Oh yes you will!” And she was right. Almost as soon as I had arrived, the LifeWorks Rehab therapists started working with me to get me up and moving around. It was slow going at first, but with their help I was making progress every day. They not only knew how to make me stronger and healthier, but they knew how to lift my spirits, too.
My LifeWorks Rehab therapists were truly special people, as was everyone I met at Berkshire Health and Rehabilitation Center. My LifeWorks Rehab therapists were incredibly knowledgeable and thorough, but there were truly special people, too. They went above and beyond their profession and approached their work with a caring and patience that were like nothing I’ve ever seen. I worked hard to build my strength, and before I knew it I was walking around on my own and even doing extra work in the gym after my therapy sessions.
I really wanted to get back home and my LifeWorks Rehab therapists were willing to do anything in their power to help get me there. I’m back home now and I’m 100% recovered — I can do absolutely anything I want, and I truly credit LifeWorks Rehab with my recovery. I can’t say enough great things about my experience at Berkshire Health and Rehabilitation Center. It’s a special place, and the caring people that work there truly make it that way.
